Akira Onishi and masharu purchased this chalk in the stationary store named Tokyo Hands on 1 May 2022 in Shibuya, Tokyo. The price of a box with eight chalk pieces was 176 yen, which is about 1,3 euro. This chalk is sold purely as a stationary product. The sellers in Tokyo Hands have never heard that anyone would buy it for eating. The idea to purchase this chalk came from the Facebook group ‘Clay Worldwide’ dedicated to eating clay and other earth- like substances. One of the participants has mentioned chewing on this chalk. This participant was however not from Japan and explained that they purchased this chalk through . This dustless chalk is produced by Nihon Rikagaku Industry. The seller expresses that this is an eco-friendly product, made from calcium carbonate and scallop shells. According to the seller this chalk lasts twice as long as gypsum chalk thanks to its lower wear factor. Its coated body also keeps the hand of the user clean. The trip of the Museum of Edible Earth to Japan was made possible by FabCafe Tokyo within YouFab Creative Awards with the theme ‘Democratic Experiment(s)’, where the Museum of Edible Earth has received the Grand prize.
