The bundle contains all the items required for small scale metal melting (jewellery or model making), you just need to add metal and heat. The bundle contains: Crucible Holder 75mm (3 inch) Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish Carbon Stirling Rod 300 mm 100g of Borax Powder ? Flux (Borax Decahydrate). Supplied in a sealed plastic bag. The Crucible Holder is 320mm long and can be adjusted for various sizes of Ceramic Crucible/ Melting. Allow the Melting dish to be securely held and poured in the mould, the handle reduces heat transfer. The 75mm (3 inch) Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish can be used with all types of precious and not precious metal, including Gold, Silver, Platinum, Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Pewter, Bronze and Tin. PLEASE NOTE: THE CERAMIC CRUCIBLE SHOULD BE PRE-HEATED AND GLAZED WITH BORAX TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE ITEM. A carbon (graphite) stirring rod for use when melting metals (gold, silver bronze copper & aluminium) for casting. The rods will help to remove impurities from the molten metal during the stirring process. The rods are made from high density graphite and are 300mm long x 12mm diameter. The rods are brittle and care should be taken when using them.The rod should not be used with platinum as this will contaminate the metal, Borax Powder is used as a flux when soldering metal (including jewellery) and when metal is melted for casting (including sand/ delft casting and lost wax casting. The addition of borax power reduces oxidisation and improves the metal flow characteristics. For use with gold, silver, bronze, brass, aluminium The Borax Powder is easy to dissolve and can be mixed with tap water to form a paste when soldering, which can be applied using a brush. The Borax Powder can be applied directly to molten metals during the melting processing and is suitable for metal/ gas furnace melting or via a crucible and torch. The Borax Powder can also be used to glaze new crucibles which will assist the free flow of the molten metal during the casting process. Small quantities of the Borax Powder should be sprinkled on to the inner surface of a new crucible and heat applied by torch/ furnace or Kiln. This process should be repeated until whole in surface of the new crucible is glazed. Suitable personal protective equipment should be used when using Borax Powder. It is advisable wear suitable clothing and use gloves, mask eye protection and work in a well-lit and well-ventilated area.
