The bitter cocktail breakout star of 2023 gets a N/A makeover for 2024, the year of responsible, sober choices (maybe?). Lyre's Classico non-alcoholic sparkling wine alternative forms the base, with Free Spirits' Spirit of Milano and Lyre's Aperitif Rosso adding the bitter and vinous qualities.

Carmen Softpaws, our glamorous debut feline, has brought to us a sumptuous Mai Tai riff that sees smoky Highland Park in place of rum, orgeat syrup, lime, a touch of both grapefruit AND orange liqueur, and even a spoonful of rich marmalade to turn sumptuous into downright decadent. Highland Park, the evergreen star of the calendar each year, is here buoyed by the tropical notes of Giffard's Banane du Bresil, coconut cream, and lemon juice, with just a pinch of sea salt to balance it all out. It doesn't get more classic or reliable than this. The original definition of cocktail was simply any combination of spirit, sugar, and bitters. Hence, as more and more cocktails came to be made and defined, this formula became known as the Old Fashioned way to make a cocktail. So while it may have been old fashioned since at least the 1850's, it remains as alive as ever. Nowadays it generally implies a base of American whiskey, and we prefer rye for it's bold and spicy complexity that always works well in a cocktail.
